I’m a dog person. I have two. One that’s a totally blind fur ball named Cody, and the other is Lucy. Lucy has more personality than a lot of people I know. She’s easily startled. She’s neurotic. She’s nervous. She loves David a little more than she loves me. She likes her red ball so much that sometimes she sleeps with it between her paws. She loves to lick lotion off my skin. It’s disgusting. She likes to sleep on our bed, beneath the covers, between David and I. I’m not crazy about this behavior, but the man of the house loves it, so I have to live with it.
Both dogs are totally spoiled. Neither one of them is good about us trimming their nails. I mean… we pretty much have to sit on them, pin them to the ground, and trim as quickly as possible while they thrash and bark, whine, and moan like they’re dying. It’s RIDICULOUS!!!! We’ve all but completely given up on ever bathing them, because when we do there’s usually dog hair on the ceiling of the bathroom. Bathing our dogs is like trying to catch a greased pig. It’s like when a bar of soap slips out of your hand and you just can’t get a good grip on it. An activity designed to clean should not be so darn messy! It just seems counterproductive.
We’ve been able to determine through the “just toss him in and see what happens” method that Cody does not like to swim. He prefers to be dry, and… well… inactive. Swimming really doesn’t fit in to his athletic regimen of laying around. Because of Lucy’s reaction to bath time, we always assumed she didn’t really care for water either. It’s a shame too, because we’re moving to a house on a lake.
Well, when we visited Michigan a week ago, Amanda and I left the back yard to go shoot a few photos of her girls and when we returned I walked over to this scene in the video below. At first I was really annoyed because Lucy doesn’t have her shots up to date and she’d have to ride soaking wet the entire 3.5 hours back home. However… it’s so stinking cute!! After nine years, we discovered our dog likes to swim! Nine years, and we’ve NEVER seen her do this. Countless visits to Michigan and she’s never jumped in the lake. And let me point out, she’s nine years old and still acting like a puppy. I just love that dog! So much personality! More than a lot of people!
