Before we get started. Please brace yourself for some self deprecating humor.
That’s all it is. Humor. This is not a plea for help. This is not a cry for attention.
This is just me being silly. ok? We cool? Carry on…
On two former occasions, I’ve made light of how my husband, my wonderful long-suffering husband, is constantly compared to celebrities. He’s a good looking guy. People notice. If you’d like to catch up on all that nonsense, you can see the first post here. And the second post is here.
To sum it up for you quickly, my husband has been told he looks like all of the following celebrities:
I’ve always been pretty content with knowing I married up. I mean. He’s a ten and I’m probably seeeeeeveral notches below a ten, but I like to think I have compensating assets, like the humor and excitement I bring to David’s life. I’ve always told myself I don’t have to look like a celebrity. I look like ME! I’m ok with me.
I mean, in high school I was occasionally compared to Claire Danes, but that’s so completely ludicrous that I think people only said it
1. to be nice
2. because Romeo and Juliet was so popular back then.
and possibly…..
3. to make me think I could maybe, if I was really clever, get a Leonardo someday.

Whatever the reasons, I am completely aware that no one will ever mistake me for Claire. Not gonna happen.
As far as I am concerned, I have no celebrity doppelgänger. I. as-a-matter-of-fact. Am one of a kind. uh-Thankyouverymuch.
So, it took my COMPLETELY off guard a few months ago, when I received one of the biggest insults of my life. (Or so I thought.)
I sat at one of our local Warsaw wedding networking luncheons. These are monthly meetings with other local wedding vendors where we chat about the industry and give each other encouragement, tips, and help network and make connections. It’s a great group and I LOVE being part of it.
Well, we were enjoying our Bento boxes at Cerulean and one of them looked at me from across the table and said, “You know… I’ve been trying to figure this out for the longest time and I just did. You look like Barbra Streisand!” Another chimed in, “Oh yeah, she does!”
what.
no.
You see, my only experience with Barbra had come from two things.
First: Yentl.
ew.
Please tell me I don’t look like a young Jewish woman dressed as a young Jewish boy so that she can sneak into Hebrew school.
No, really, I’m going to need to hear you say those. exact. words…
I’m waiting….
That reeeeeeeally doesn’t sound like me. I’m girly. And not at all bookish.

And this song she sings in Yentl? I’m not a fan.
Oh! And Yentl? It sounds like a food. A gross little bean. Not a name for a pretty lady.
Obviously, I take umbrage at being compared to Yentl.
Moving on.
My second exposure to Barbra was from Linda Richman:
Now, Linda Richman was a character played by Mike Meyers on SNL and “she” hosted the fictional talk show “Coffee Talk”.

Linda, and her friends, were obsessed with Barbra. So, in my middle school brain, I somehow associated Barbra’s looks with BIG hair, LONG nails, tinted glasses, bad makeup, and… I can only assume… a cloud of perfume and cigarette smoke.

You know, basically ME this Halloween:

(Yes, that was my actual costume.) (sorry about the grainy yellow cell phone pic)
(how many sets of parenthesis can I put back to back?) (I think the limit was two…)
(gotta know when to quit)
Barbra even appeared on coffee talk once. Wearing a hideous beret.
This did not improve my opinion of her.
SO, when I was told I looked like her. I really just had this Mike Meyers/Yentl hybrid stuck in my head. I’m going to let you get that image stuck in your head too, and we’ll come back to it later.
For now, we’ll move on to Julie. Wonderful angelic Julie.
I had ALSO recently been compared to my HERO Julie Andrews. High praise, indeed! I mean… she may be a problem like Maria, but… she’s cuuuuuuute!
And she sings like an angel.
I can do a pretty spot on impression of her singing if you’ve somehow (maybe by living under a rock) missed out on the treat of her voice.
ok, the impression is not thaaaaat great. You have to really focus and pretend pretty hard to hear the similarities.
FINE! I’ll admit it! Basically, I just know a few of the same songs she knows, and I try to throw a fake British accent on them.
Gosh! I feel like you really beat that admission out of me.

OH! And she floats.

Who wouldn’t want to be a magical, floating, singing, family-saving lady?
But, as I thought about it a little more, I realized maybe what everyone was hinting at, is that I look like I’m in my 70’s. I mean… that’s probably what these two ladies have most in common these days. Barbra is now 70 and Julie is 77.

“Celebrity 70” is really more like “normal lady 60”, right? So… that’s kinda cool. I look like a woman in her 70s who looks like a really well preserved 60. A woman who you can tell used to be REALLY pretty. Once. Right? NO. (That was too much sarcasm, even for me. Too. Much.)
All joking aside- These ladies look AMAZING! Not “just” for their 70s. Yes, they’ve aged gracefully. But age IS beautiful. Who cares that they’re older? They’re classy. They’re legends. They’re beautiful. Present tense. Always have been. Always will be.
Age is just a number. Aging is a choice. I mean… Betty White isn’t doing it. Why should the rest of us? She’s 91 and KILLING IT!
Upon further research, I have discovered that Barbra really was quite lovely in 99% of her movies. She didn’t cross-dress for all of them, thank goodness. Being compared to her is quite a huuuuuuuge compliment.
Being compared to THE Dame Julie Andrews is a HUGE compliment.
And I suppose I can see little similarity to both Barbra and Julie at very very very specific angles.

SO. The jury of one is IN. I guess there’s more than one Grant who looks like a celebrity around here! eh?
Take that, David!
But…. let’s be honest. I DO have a little bit of old lady in me. For example, I’ve spent all of today so far in cupcake patterned flannel pajamas whilst sipping tea. And you don’t even want to KNOW what music I’m listening to right now. Let’s just say… it’s definitely gentle old lady music, and we’ll leave it at that.
Happy Friday everyone!
Feel free to leave a comment below! PLEASE! I’d love to hear who YOU’VE been compared to!
Tell me your funny celebrity doppelgänger stories!
LOL! That is the BEST.
You do look a little like Kris Jenner. And she IS beautiful.
While at WCHS pool last winter, the 16ish life guard says to me…
“Do you know who Kim Kardashian is?”
me: “yes”
lifeguard: “You look like her mom, you know. And, I mean, she’s kinda pretty in an older way.”
hmmm….
